About Prodigy

Prodigy Disc is an American disc golf manufacturer headquartered in Dalton, Georgia, that burst onto the scene in 2013 with an ambitious vision to revolutionize the sport. The company was founded by disc golfers with the goal of creating more consistent flying discs while also elevating the professional side of the sport by providing better financial support for touring players. Prodigy manufactures a comprehensive line of disc golf equipment including discs, bags, and apparel designed to help players reach their maximum potential. Their product line features an intuitive naming convention where discs are categorized by type (D for distance drivers, F for fairway drivers, M for midranges, and A/P for approach and putters) with numbers indicating stability characteristics. Known for their premium plastic blends and attention to disc flight consistency, Prodigy has maintained a dedicated following in the disc golf community, particularly among players who appreciate their straightforward approach to disc categorization and quality manufacturing.

History

Prodigy Disc was founded in 2013 by disc golfers, most notably Michael Sullivan and David Greenwell, who sought to advance the sport by creating a company that would enable top players to make a living through their tournament winnings and endorsements. Their vision was to develop more consistent discs while simultaneously raising the professional standards of the sport. The company made a dramatic entrance into the disc golf market in January 2013 with what became known as the "Prodigy exodus." They signed an impressive roster of top professional players who left established manufacturers like Innova and Discraft to join the Prodigy team. This initial group included prominent names such as Will Schusterick, Ricky Wysocki, Paul Ulibarri, Nikko Locastro, Garrett Gurthie, Jeremy Koling, Cale Leiviska, Paige Pierce, Sarah Hokom, and Catrina Allen, among others. This strategic move immediately positioned Prodigy as a serious competitor in the market and generated significant buzz within the disc golf community. Their approach of having professional players as part owners in the company was revolutionary at the time and helped establish a new standard for player sponsorships in the industry. While many of the original team members eventually moved to other manufacturers with more lucrative contracts (which some argue was actually a sign of Prodigy's success in raising sponsorship standards across the industry), several key players remained with the brand. Will Schusterick, a three-time US Disc Golf Champion, has been with Prodigy since its inception and has gradually increased his role within the company. Starting as a player with an equity stake, Schusterick joined Prodigy full-time in 2017 as a Sales Account Executive. He then advanced to Sales Director in 2019 and, in December 2024, was named CEO of the company, marking a new chapter in Prodigy's evolution. Through the years, Prodigy has continued to develop new disc models and plastic blends while maintaining its presence in the disc golf market. They've weathered various challenges and maintained a consistent presence in the sport, sponsoring players at all competitive levels and continuing to innovate with their product offerings. In 2019, Prodigy expanded its market reach by introducing the ACE Line, a brand new line of discs manufactured in their own overseas facility in China. This move allowed them to offer high-quality discs at more accessible price points while maintaining their premium line of American-made products. Today, under Schusterick's leadership, Prodigy continues to evolve as a company while staying true to its foundational mission of advancing disc golf as a professional sport and producing innovative equipment for players of all skill levels.
