About Westside

Westside Discs is a Finnish disc golf brand that has become part of the popular "Trilogy" family of disc golf manufacturers. The company offers a complete line of discs across all categories with a distinctive Nordic-inspired aesthetic and naming convention. Their products are known for their consistent quality, unique flight characteristics, and eye-catching designs that draw from Finnish mythology. Currently, Westside Discs operates as part of House of Discs, a disc golf conglomerate that includes Latitude 64, Dynamic Discs, and several other brands. While maintaining its unique brand identity, Westside shares manufacturing facilities and distribution networks with these partner companies, allowing for coordinated product development and efficient global distribution. Westside's discs have gained popularity among players of all skill levels, with several models becoming staples in many players' bags. Their products are manufactured to high standards with a range of plastic types suited for different playing conditions and player preferences.

History

Westside Discs was founded in 2003 in Finland as a disc golf retail company that initially imported and sold various disc brands on the Finnish market. For the first several years, the company operated solely as a retailer and distributor, building its presence in the Nordic disc golf scene. In 2009, Westside began working on developing its own line of discs in cooperation with Latitude 64, a Swedish disc golf manufacturer. This partnership allowed Westside to begin producing unique disc molds while leveraging Latitude 64's manufacturing expertise and facilities. Over the following years, Westside expanded its lineup of discs, gradually building a comprehensive range of models covering all disc categories. A distinctive aspect of Westside's brand identity was established early on, with the company choosing to incorporate themes and characters from Kalevala, the Finnish national epic, into their disc designs and naming. This connection to Finnish cultural heritage gave the brand a unique identity in the marketplace. In November 2017, a significant change occurred when Latitude 64 and Dynamic Discs jointly purchased Westside Discs from its founder, Janne Penttila. According to reports, Penttila had begun to lose interest in the sport, creating an opportunity for the other two companies to acquire the brand. The acquisition helped solidify what fans had already dubbed the "Trilogy" – the three brands whose discs were all manufactured at Latitude 64's facility in Sweden. Following the acquisition, Westside's Finnish distribution operations were moved to Latitude 64's base in Sweden, while U.S. distribution remained with Dynamic Discs in Emporia, Kansas. The company's product development became a collaborative effort between Latitude 64 and Dynamic Discs, though the Westside brand maintained its distinct identity and disc lineup. In 2023, another major development occurred when House of Discs, a disc golf conglomerate majority-owned by European private equity firms Vendis Capital and Equip Capital, acquired Dynamic Discs. This move brought all three Trilogy brands under the same corporate umbrella, along with other disc golf brands like Kastaplast and companies like Handeye Supply Co. and Spinoff Games. Throughout these ownership changes, Westside has continued to produce popular disc models and maintain its distinctive brand identity within the growing disc golf market.
