About Gateway

Gateway Disc Sports is a disc golf equipment manufacturer founded in 1994 by David McCormack. The company has built a reputation for creating high-quality discs, particularly their famous Wizard putter, which is consistently voted as one of the best putters in disc golf. Beyond manufacturing equipment, Gateway has contributed significantly to the growth of the sport by building over 90 championship-caliber courses and supporting thousands of tournaments, charity events, players, and school clubs.

History

Gateway Disc Sports was founded in 1994 by David McCormack, initially as a distributor of disc golf equipment. McCormack has been involved in the sport for over 30 years as a player, product designer, manufacturer, and premier course designer. His history with disc golf dates back to 1975, when at age 11, he started playing at St. Thomas More grade school before the modern disc golf basket was invented. That same year, he designed his first object course around his neighborhood. The company began manufacturing its own discs in 1999 with the release of the Sabre in S (Sure Grip) plastic. However, Gateway gained worldwide recognition in 2002 with the introduction of the Wizard putter, which many still consider one of the greatest discs of all time. Gateway was also among the first manufacturers to produce wide-winged drivers capable of resisting strong headwinds, such as the Speed Demon and Spirit in durable Evolution plastic. David McCormack is credited with manufacturing the first professional disc golf bag, further demonstrating the company's innovation in the sport. Today, Gateway Disc Sports offers over 32 PDGA Approved golf disc models in various plastic blends, including Diamond, Platinum, and Sure Grip. Their primary putter plastic, Sure Grip, is available in a wide range of flexibilities and surface textures, catering to different player preferences and making their putters particularly popular among disc golfers.
